Sun Gigabit Ethernet & Cisco Catalyst 2948 Switch

We have a CISCO Catalyst 2948 switch and a Sun E3500.

Is it possible to connect a Sun Gigabit Ethernet 2.0 P/N - X1140A (1000Base-SX) to a 1000Base-FX GBIC Module on a Cisco Catalyst 2948 Switch? Is there a special cable, interface .... required for this?

Please assist.

Yes, at the very least, you'll need a signal converter and, depending on the fiber lengths perhaps (almost certainly) an optical attenuator (at least) on the LX-->SX side of the link.

You might wanna check out something like a SignaMax 065-1194ED.

I'm sure Black Box and others also make something that'll do the conversion...I just happened to have the SignaMax catalog handy.

Good Luck.
