Sun Trunking & Cisco EtherChannel.

I have a situation where the Sun server using Quad FE card with Trunking Software 1.20 above connected to two Catalyst 5509 switches, with 2 connections to each switch.

The Sun Trunking feature is able to aggregate 4 ports as a single connection. So, my question is, am I able to configure the Catalyst 5509 switches to run in single FEC so I could get the Sun server load-balance across two switches? If not, what would be the situation like (create loop)?

Anyone come across this situation, please advise. Thank you.

You can not do Etherchannel across switches, that is, all the ports have to belong to the same switch.

If the Sun station doesn't use STP, I think you can run into loops...

Re: Sun Trunking & Cisco EtherChannel.

So, on the Sun machine if I configure as a single ip address link (FEC), and STP enable on the both Cat5K switches. Would it be able to do the failover function? And how should I configure the FEC on the Cat5K switch, would it be able the form the FEC with the Sun machine Quad FE card?

You might want to try Multipath on the SUN. This will allow you to connect to both switches and provide failover functionality.
