Sup720 Switch Fabric Slots

I read on Cisco product desc that the Sup720 is required to go in to slots 5 and 6 on a 9 slot chassis. Is this accurate? Does this mean I can not replace the current Sup's in Slot 1 & 2 with this upgrade?

Re: Sup720 Switch Fabric Slots

Shannon,

Yes, that is correct. In your case if you have a SUP in 1 and 2, then you need to move the modules currently installed in slot 5 and 6 to 1 and 2 and then install the SUP720.

Make sure the modules that you have in slots 5 & 6 can be installed in 1 & 2 and also change the configuration accordingly.

Please refer the FAQ for details:

I hope it helps.

Re: Sup720 Switch Fabric Slots

This is correct - this is due to the fact that the 3 backplanes cross each other at slot 5 and 6, and the SUP720 requires a connection to all 3 backplanes at the same time
