Supervisor compatibility in Cat6509

Hi,

we have a Cat6509 with a single WS-X6K-S1A-MSFC2.

We need to have redundancy and now this Supervisor is EOL, so only possibility is to buy a WS-X6-S2-MSFC2.

Question: is there any incompatibility issue having both sup working toguether, one SUP-S1A and a SUP-2 ?

Thanks a lot,

I'm afraid that will be difficult. You need to have two identical supervisor modules for redundancy to work.

Re: Supervisor compatibility in Cat6509

Hi Feilperodero,

I confirm you that 2 different hardware versions of supervisor will not at all work in a single chassis.

As soon as you insert sup 2 in second slot it will go into other state.

For redundancy the mandatory requirement is to match the exact hardware which includes sup,pfc and msfc

Check this link and it will clear all your doubts

http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/lan/cat6000/sw_7_2/confg_gd/redund.htm#wp1079325

This is a beautiful link which gives you all what is required for redundancy including redundancy for sups as well as msfc
