Supervisor II in Cat 4006 continously sending ICMP type 8

A client of mine is using a Cat 4006 with a Supervisor II module and it is constantly sending ICMP type 8 packets to the firewall. Could anyone help?

It's default gateway points to the firewall and the show user command does not show anyone else logged into the switch.

TIA,

Paul

Hi Paul,

when you do a ´sh ip traffic´, ´do you see a lot of ´unreachables´ under the ICMP Statistics ? You might want to turn off ip unreachables on the interface of the 4006 connected to your firewall (no IP Unreachables).

This is normal behavior. The switch is verifying connectivity to the default gateway since you can have multiple default gateways configured on the switch. To turn the feature off, you need recent software and use the command "set feature mdg disable"
