Here is a link with picture that shows where the PEM is inserted in the chassis:

http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/lan/cat4000/hw_doc/cn11189.htm#wp34266

No need to power off any of the power supplies.

The purpose of removing it is just for confirmation, it is not a solution. The solution would be after removing it and if the sup's status LED turns "green". Is to replace the PEM because that will confirm that it's "BAD" as the environment indicated.

Do you have access to the sup through console? What mode is it in? rommon, no prompt? If you are in rommon, you can try the following:

dir bootflash:

and try to "boot bootflash:" from rommon of whatever IOS you see in the bootflash:. Most likely it's in rommon.

The prompt is OK.

Ii sn't in Rommon.

The Supervisor works properly and the switch perform and works at the layer 2 and layer 3 correctly.

It is in HSRP with another Layer 3 switch, but the Led on the Supervisor is Orange.

Re: Supervisor V WS-X4516 Color Status Led (is Orange)

Then there is nothing wrong with the sup, you might not be looking at status LED which is at the left of the 2 GBIC ports if its a WS-X4516. The ethernet mgmt port also have a link LED and will always be orange as it is not enabled, it is only used for disaster recovery.

Re: Supervisor V WS-X4516 Color Status Led (is Orange)

Hello,

The orange light is on the sup on the leaft hand side corener or in the middle under the 10/100 managemant port. If its under that, that means that port is in disabled state.

You should get a green light on this. If its the other case, you take down a picture of this paste here, we would like to check it,

HTH, please rate if it does.

Re: Supervisor V WS-X4516 Color Status Led (is Orange)

Hello,

The Sup is showing orange LED due to this possible reason:

1. The PEM is actually bad and needs to be replaced - the sup will always show orange as long as the BAD PEM or any BAD power supply is in the chassis.

Try to remove the PEM from the chassis for now and see if the "Supervisor Led Color:" turns to "green".

It is most likely a bad PEM that needs to be replaced.

Re: Supervisor V WS-X4516 Color Status Led (is Orange)

Hi FC,

PEM is your power entry module on 4006 for providing inline power to ip hone. Its an external power shelf used in the chassis.

Please find the link below for PEM module installation:
