kindly.....someone tells me abt the different models of switcheds....i pretty much stuck up with the switches .....i need switch for my inter Vlan ......and i want to go for 2950 but when i looked at it there r many models in 29050 like 2950 XL-EN and WS 2950C and some one r with 2 uplinks 100baseTX what does this TX maeans in this ....plz help me out??? and also tell me what will be the IOS i need for ruinning Vlan routing thanbks in advance
The TX in 100baseTX refers to the flavor of Fast Ethernet that uses two pairs of Category 5 cabling. For comparison, there's also 100baseT4, which uses 4 pairs of category 3 cabling, but I don't believe Cisco offers any support for it.
As far as Intervlan routing, the 2950 switch is not capable of it, as it is strictly a layer 2 switch. A 3550, 3560, 3750, or higher-end model of switch is required for Intervlan routing.
This is actually a pretty cool feature, i didn't even know it existed until I was looking for a solution to advertise a subnet (prefix in BGP talk), only if a certain condition existed. This is exactly what conditional advertisements does
