Switchport Security Violation : Protect Vs Restrict ..

Hi:

I'm trying to find real difference between Protect Vs Restrict.

The documents is misleading between releases:

Rel. 12.1(8)EA1, Feb. 2002 says:

Restrict: restrict

(Optional) Set security restrict mode. In this mode, a port security violation does not restrict data but causes a trap notification to be sent to the network management station

Rel. 12.1(9)EA1, April 2002 says:

restrict

(Optional) Set the security violation restrict mode. In this mode, a port security violation restricts data and causes the SecurityViolation counter to increment.

Which one is right: Will restrict, restricts and send trap.

If so what is the big differnce between Protected Vs Restrict.

Becuase both does the same job.

Re: Switchport Security Violation : Protect Vs Restrict ..

In my experience, 'restrict' restricts data flow. More current documentation seems to be clearer on this issue: http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/switches/ps628/products_configuration_guide_chapter09186a00801cde7f.html#1038501
