I have a client who has a production enviornmet where there is a lot of PC image ghosting via multicast. Is there a best practice on this anywhere.

any help would be appreciated.

Re: Symantec Ghost

Taken from http://www.ghost-corporate.com:

GhostCast Server Provides three methods of Ghost image deployment, allowing an IT administrator to choose the method that best meets their bandwidth requirements:

* Multicast - The simultaneous deployment of one image to many computers

* Unicast - The deployment to a single client

* Subnet Targeted broadcast - Selective deployment based upon subnet grouping

GhostCast Throttle Allows you to "throttle down" the multicast speed so you can reduce the amount of network bandwidth consumed during multicasting - for improved network performance:

* "IV-Drip" method to reduce network bandwidth issues

* Allows an IT Administrator to throttle down the multicast speed

Don't know if there is a "best practice" (check with Symantec), maybe it's just a matter of licensing one or more ghost servers where in the network is more convenient .....

further info can be seen at
