We have configured a cisco 3660 router to send syslog messages to a Linux server with Red Hat Linux release 5.2. The IOS version is 12.1
The conf in the router is as follows
logging x.x.x.x
logging facility local7
The messages dont seem to reach the Linux server though the " show logging " command in the Router shows that "Logging to x.x.x.x, n message lines logged"
We have tried changing the facility to other options also but still the problem persists. The same linux server receives syslog messages from other 7206 routers too without any problem. The 7206,3660 and the Linux server are in different networks.
We have also tried to log the same to a 3COM syslog server running in a Windows machine but still the messages dont reach the syslog server.
Can anyone suggest a suitable solution?

Hello,
It sounds you have not enabled "traps". Try this command "logging trap" in the global configuration mode.
Hope this helps,

Hi,
Have you ensured any access lists configured preventing your syslog traffic? Otherwise you shouldn't have problem !!! - as you said other routers able to log messages.

Finally found out that the problem was due to the IOS bug in 12.1(5)T. Need to upgrade the IOS to get the syslog on the remote server.
