syslog via snmp

I would like to enable monitoring of syslog messages (especially access list violations) via snmp. We have deployed a number of 1603s on IOS 11.7, however the snmp-server enable traps command does not seem to support syslog. Is this a limitation of this version of IOS or what? Any answer gratefully appreciated.

Re: syslog via snmp

you have to set the logging level to atleast 6 to log such types of syslog messages. here is the link that will help you:

Re: syslog via snmp

Not sure I get what you mean. I am already logging access list violations to a syslogger without any problem. The point I am questioning is that I want to log these via snmp rathe rthan syslog. When I do "snmp-server enable traps" then syslog is not an option.

http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/477/SNMP/snmp_traps.html should help you as well. Not sure why you're not seeing the syslog option in the trap CLI on the router, could be due to the fact that you're running a very old IOS version 11.x ?

Re: syslog via snmp

As I said in my original post I am running 11.7 and my suspicion was that this might be an IOS version issue. However I looked at Feature Navigator and there was no relevant documentation there. So apart from manually going through all the version release notes I couldn't figure out how to check this out. If anyone can confirm which IOS version started to support snmp syslog I would be grateful to hear. An upgrade to a very recent release will mean both flash and ram upgrades.
