tcp port 42 on router

My wins servers are not replicating, and according to MS event id 4202 the router is blocking tcp port 42.

MS fix recommends forwarding of TCP port 42.

Is this done with an access-list or using the ip forward-protocol?

Re: tcp port 42 on router

It would have to be permitted with an access-list , but if you have no access-lists currently applied to the router interfaces on the router then no traffic is blocked. Check all routers, firewalls, etc between the servers to see if it is being blocked anywhere along the path.

ip-forward-protocol doesn't forward tcp packets.

Re: tcp port 42 on router

There are no access-list on the router. This happen only whe the BDC/wins is placed in a diffrent subnet than PDC/WINS. They replicate when placed on the same subnet.

Re: tcp port 42 on router

What needs to happen is that when you move the BDC to a different subnet, you need to purge the entries in the PDC WINS database. The PDC is still trying to connect ot the BDC on its old address.
