A client Location A connects to Location B through a VPN connection. For restricted access to the client, there are access-lists(port wise) on a L3 Switch at location B.Some users at Location B connect to the client servers at location A (ie thru VPN), but once telnet is initiated to the servers it times out if the connection is idle for more than 20 minutes and the compilation stops.Even if access-list on L3 is removed, the problem persists.IP connectivity between both locations is working fine.
I want to know whether its a Cisco problem (bandwidth problem due to VPN,as telnet gets timed out) or related to servers?
As the timeout is 20 mins it is most likely that your servers have an idle-timeout on telnet connections. A network timeout does not take that long and when the telnet keep-alives are lost or blocked you would also lose other packets and have a bad response. This is appearently not the case.
