Terminal server and cables

Hi all

I am looking at terminal servers. my question is on the length of the cables that are available.

I have devices on 2 separate racks 5m apart.

do I have to build my own cables in this case ?

Thanks in advance

Sam

Re: Terminal server and cables

There are actually several options:

1.) You can make your own cable, using a DB9-RJ45 adapter and a rolled cable made to the length you need (hint: just cut one end off a 15-foot patch cable and re-terminate)

2.) Use an existing console cable and a RJ-45 coupler along with a standard 'straight-through' cable

3.) Just buy one already made to the specs you need - http://www.stonewallcable.com/dept.asp?dept_id=1009
