Testing of Router Interfaces

Hi All,

I want to test the Router Interface i.e Functionality of Ethernet Port , Serial Port ,

E1 PRI Port , BRI Port before making the interfaces Online.

I want to do this exercise to confirm that all the ports are working and can be connected to isdn line or pri line or ethernet network blindly

Also this test will ensure that all my router interfaces are working properly.

Is there any procedure for the same (similar to Loopback)

Can Anybody post the detailed procedure for testing all the ports of router.

Unfortunately the only way to verify that an interface is good is actually to connect it to something and bring it up.

In the case of a serial interfcase you can connect it diectly to another router using a DTE - DCE cable with the DCE side configured to provide clocking to bring up the line.

And on the ethernet you can use a crossover cable to another router or device. While you can configure 'no keepalive' on the ethernet to force the interface intoi an up state, this does not verify that the interface is good.
