TFTP Cisco 1751

Im having problems copying the running config file from a Cisco 1751 router to a tftp server. All the other routers on the network write to the tftp server but this one. Ive scoured the help pages on this web site and most seem to point towards snmp. Snmp is active on this router and it is configured the same as all the other devices. Can someone please give me a nudge in the right direction to resolving this niggling problem, as it is driving me mad. Below is the out put from the router and the TFTP server during copying.

Router

aberfan#copy run tftp

Address or name of remote host []? 10.40.0.110

Destination filename [aberfan-confg]?

.....

%Error opening tftp://10.40.0.110/aberfan-confg (Undefined error)

TFTP Server

You dont describe your network but in our network the serial sides of remote routers are using non-advertised networks. Make sure the router can ping the tftp server using the address on the interface that faces the server. Thats the address that will open the TFTP. The messages on the tftp server show that the router can reach the server but do not prove that the server can reach the router.

Just for grins, try saving the file to a new file name. Perhaps the tftp server is not letting the old file be re-writen.

No unfortunately this didn't work, but thanks anyway

Hi

What about the rights of the file to open and write into the file?

Are they o.k.?

Otherwiese delete the old one and create a new one.

Hope that helps

Roger

Ive checked the rights and they seem ok, when the router writes to the tftp server it is creating a file called aberfan-confg, but there is nothing init.

We have around 100 1700 routers on this network and this is the only one that wont save its config file to the tftp server !!!!!!!!! aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh

Hi

I would try to change the name when you save it.

Like:

aberfan#copy run tftp

Address or name of remote host []? 10.40.0.110

Destination filename [aberfan-confg]? newrouter-confg

But you have to create a file named "newrouter-confg" on the tftp-server

Hope it works this way

Roger

Try to copy the startup file over, see if that will help. There may be a slight corruption in the run file that is causing problems.

Sorry tired that, no joy, but grateful for your response

Yes this is the answer. The network we have here is one LAN with two main routers hanging off it, 1 by 3640 and 1 by 3660. The TFTP server was using the 3660 as its gateway, and aberfan is connected to 3640. The 3640 and 3660 share routing tables via rip. However aberfan router could not ping the tftp server, even though the server was showing messages that it was seeing aberfan. When I changed the gateway on the tftp server to using the 3640 the copy run tftp cmd worked.

Thanks to everyone for their help
