What I need to know is what traffic is generated by Ciscoworks
(polling/acquisitions) and how frequently is it set to do this .
From my understanding it should only poll devices that are in the seed file
ie network components , why does it do ICMP requests to end devices . Is
this because of user tracking ping sweeps ? If I disable the ping sweeps
will this reduce the traffic generation ?

As far as I know, ICMP types that are needed for polling are 0,3,8,11. Rest can be blocked.

The UT ping sweep will ping all the possible addresses in each of your subnets if it is turned on. Turning it off should reduce the ICMP traffic. ICMP traffic can also be generated by RME if you have Availability Monitoring turned on. RME will also cause other types of traffic when it runs its polls.
