Translational Bridging

Hi There,

I am trying to configure translational bridging but I have a few questions.

1) When it says it will only work with non-routable protocols, how does the Ethernet segment talk with the Token Ring segment?

2) I have configured it on a 2612, and when I debug the token ring int I can see the translation taking place (while pinging from the eth / TR) but the ping requests don't make it back. I have configured layer 3 bitswapping to no avail.

3) I have read almost every possible document on it, and can't seem to find to many have that configuration samples. Does anyone have any good links?

Thanks!!

Re: Translational Bridging

Hi,

if you want to turn a cisco router into a stupid black box, which "converts" Ethernet to Tokenring, then try this one:

!

version 12.1

service timestamps debug uptime

service timestamps log uptime

no service password-encryption

!

hostname bridge

!

no ip routing ! IMPORTANT

!

source-bridge ring-group 10

source-bridge transparent 10 13 1 4

!

!

interface Ethernet0/0

no ip address

bridge-group 4

!

interface TokenRing0/0

no ip address

ring-speed 16

source-bridge 255 1 10

source-bridge spanning

!

bridge 4 protocol ieee

bridge 4 bitswap-layer3-addresses ! IMPORTANT for IP ARP !!

Greets

Tom
