Troubleshooting switch ports

We have switches in our network with specific ports not responding when connected to a workstation (LED doesnt light up).

How can I troubleshoot these specific ports?

thanks

Re: Troubleshooting switch ports

Try shutting down the port within the IOS and 'no shut' right after. There are times when ports go into err-disable state and they won't go active until you do the 'shut' & 'no shut' routine.

Re: Troubleshooting switch ports

In addition to err-disable status, verify the ports are associated to valid layer2 VLANs. If they are members of non-existant VLANs, the port will never go active.

Re: Troubleshooting switch ports

hi,

command not valid on cisco 2900 & 2950 switches.

one particular port was working just fine on a vlan 3 port when it just stopped for no reasons.

Re: Troubleshooting switch ports

I don't have 2900 switches around so I can't give you a similar command that works there. Go with the 'shut' & 'no shut' routine. Also verify VLAN3 is active by typing 'show vlan'.
