Trunk between 3550-12T and 2950T

What is the configuration for 1000mbps trunk connection between a 3550-12T cu port and a 2950T-24 10/100/1000 baseT port? Here is what I think it should be:

On the 3550-12T, interface GigabitEthernet0/1

switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q (comment: we always opt for dot1q)

switchport mode trunk

no ip address

duplex full

speed 1000

Set up the same on interface GigabitEthernet0/1 on the 2950T-24, as follows:

switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q

switchport mode trunk

no ip address

duplex full

speed 1000

OR, simply

on the 3550-12T:

switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q

switchport mode trunk

no ip address

on the 2950T:

switchport mode trunk

no ip address

I am a bit of a novice when it comes to configuring 1000BaseT ports. We have always hard coded the speed and duplex. Is this considered acceptable, or even good? Please advise. TIA. Russ.

I believe that would be enough. Just keep in mind that if you hard-coded the speed and duplex, it should be done on both ends of the link. You can check out the example below for trunking between 3550 and a switch running IOS:
