trunk from Catalyst 6000

From this documents on CCO:

Sample Configuration:Channeling,Trunking and HSRP Betweenn Catalyst 6000 Switches Running Hybrid CATOS/IOS and Native IOS, there are somes Important Notes.

One of his says to be sure the native VLAN matches on each 802.1q trunk port.

What does it means?

Can't I use encapsulation isl?

Best regards

Lorenzo

Re: trunk from Catalyst 6000

An 802.1q trunk and an ISL trunk have very different traits but in this case you should be able to use ISL trunking.

An 802.1q trunk has to have a native vlan. These native vlans need to match on both ends of the trunk. An ISL trunk will not know the concept of a native vlan.

If you are running Cisco Switches then feel free to run ISL (except for cat 4000). This is a Cisco Proprietary protocol which means there is less configuration involved in the setup.

Hope this helps,

Re: trunk from Catalyst 6000

My questions is due at this problem.

My customer has two Catalysts 6513 connects togheter on PortChannel 1 ,in trunk , with the sames ports Gbic 1/1,2 on SUP active and PortChannel 2 ,in trunk ,with Gbic 2/1,2 on SUP standby.

He used encapsulation isl.

With this configuration has appeared the message of %STANDBY-3-DUPADDR:Duplicate address 10.240.240.1 etc.

All work in order if he set shutdown Port channel 2 (Back-up).

Didn't STP work in order?

What can I advice him?

Thanks
