Trunking between 3550-12T and 2950T-24

Hello,

I am attempting to set up a trunk link between a 3550-12T and a 2950T-24 and seem to be having some troubles. I am trying to connect the trunk link between one of the 10/100/1000BT ports on the 2950 and the 10/100/1000BT port on the 3550. However when I connect the two (whether using straight through or crossover cables) I cannot get a physical link. I have tried everything from changing the trunk modes, speed/duplex and have tried different ports. The strange thing is that the link comes up just fine if I connect the cable to one of the 10/100 ports on the 2950 rather than the 10/100/1000. Could this possibly be a software problem or a hardware incompatibility? I am running 12.1(6)EA2c on the 2950 and 12.1(8)EA1c on the 3550. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Have you tried connecting the two switches without any trunk encapsulation (regular access vlan port) on the 10/100/1000 ports? Also try a gig cross-over cable

Thank you so much prkrishn! I didn't realize that there was such thing as a gig crossover cable. Definitely a tip to keep handy.
