TTY Background Process high

We have two 6509's with MSFC1's. We are running HSRP between the two MSFC's. Both are running 12.1.11 IOS. There is also a 7206 that connects the network to a T3 link through an LS1010. Between the 7206 and the 6509's is a PIX 515.

On both the MSFC's and the 7206, the TTY Background process is high, causing the CPU to be high.

I can't find anything that would be causing that process to be high. We have the same setup on 4 other different locations with no problems.

Re: TTY Background Process high

It could be due processes that are initiated from a tty (such as debug, show tech, etc), in addition to general tty maintenance and monitoring. Also see if there is any device connected to the console port

For the most part this might spike high (and we will allow it to take alot of CPU

cycles if the router isn't doing much), but otherwise it should be pretty low

most of the time.

Re: TTY Background Process high

I agree I have seen where sessions get hung on the vty sessions , you should be able clear them out doing a clear line vty 0 4 .
