Unnumbered Serial Link

Hello All,

I was going through a Cisco Document related to using IP Unnumbered in serial link, there was whole configuration of IP Unnumbered on Routers with Serial connectivity & ospf was the protocol used. Could you please explain the basic Ideology behind using IP Unnumbered command in Serial interface to use ethernet interface IP address. Below is the connectivity diagram.

Hi,

The ip unnumbered   interface mode command borrows the IP address from the specified interface to the interface on which the command has been configured.

Anytime is necessary to use a  source address on that link, pick the one used by the associated interface.

And, directly connected route is not installed.

Thanks a lot, yes there wont be route of directly connected interface configured with IP unnumbered command.
