Up Up I/F status, unable to ping self

2621 router running 12.3 (3). Router comes up and shows both I/F's up up. One will ping itself the other won't. Tried shut, no shut, different port on switch, reboot switch, different switch. Always would come back up up. Started working on it's own for no reason that I can discern. Ideas? Troubleshooting techniques? Thanks.

Router: 2621 running C2600 Software (C2600-BINO3S3-M), Version 12.3(3)

{c2600-bino3s3-mz.123-3.bin}

Switches: 2 different models with different code.

Re: Up Up I/F status, unable to ping self

In the routing table of the router, whether it was showing the interface IP as directly connected
