Hi,
Hope anyone could advise on the following:
To upgrade the IOS of the existing switch with the same feature set, do I need to purchase the IOS?

If you have a SmartNet contract, you may not need to but if you don't, you do have to purchase it.

When I am able to login to Cisco website, does it imply that I have a SmartNet contract?

There are all sorts of logins, including guest ones so that does not necessarily indicate a SmartNet contract. WHen you log into the site, click on the Profile link (top bar) to see what contracts are associated with your account. Then, click on Additional Access which will tell you what contracts you are associated with. You should be able to send an email to cisco to then find out what the contracts entitle you to.
