Hi Piotr,

The following link has a good explanation of this:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/switches/ps646/products_configuration_example09186a0080169623.shtml

Hope that helps,

Paresh.

Hi Friend,

If you want to take the backup of your current IOS on server you have to install TFTp server on your machine.

Once done make sure you are able to ping your switch from your tftp server which is your machine itself and once the connectivity is fine you can start backup with command

copy flash: tftp

it will prompt you for tfto server ip address and file name and you can start taking the backup and once youy are done you can upgrade the new code again via tftp server.

Please go through this link for upgrade procedure

hi

do use dir flash: to find out the .bin file which is the ios code which u need to copy to ur tftp server.

You can refer the link posted out by paresh which has enough details on how to look out the same too..

and what happens now if I already have done a .bin upgrade and try now to upgrade with a .tar file ?

Re: upgrade Release on the Catalyst WS-C3550-12T

The method I like using is the archive command, like this...

Switch#archive tar /xtract tftp://x.x.x.x/"imagename" flash:

You need to make sure you have enough space on flash first. Like others have mentioned you can just backup the current running image to a TFTP server. Also I would backup the vlan.dat and config.text files.

The benifit of the archive command is it basically does everything for you... downloads the image where ever you tell it, takes the tar file extracts the image and also the html (CMS) files.

Also dont forget to update the boot statement, or just do a switch#(config)no boot system to remove the boot statement. Its really not required seeing as you cant change the config-register anyways. Basically you'd only need a boot statement if you had multiple images on flash, however it is a Cisco best pratice to specify one :)

Re: upgrade Release on the Catalyst WS-C3550-12T

thanks

I've done:

# archive download-sw /overwrite tftp://192.168.0.5/

c3550-i5q3l2-tar.121-22.EA6.tar

# delete flash:c3550-i5q3l2-mz.121-22.EA6.bin

# wr mem

# reload

and it seems to work.

now I have:

#show flash:

Directory of flash:/
