Upgrading DRAM then boots to ROMMON???

I am upgrading the DRAM in a 1760 router, currently has 32 (default) and I purchased a 64 stick. When I install it, the router boots to ROMMON. What am I doing wrong???? I try to xmodem the config in after it boots to ROMMON but it then just boots to ROMMON when done. Router worked fine before I added the stick. Thanks in advance!

Router goes into rommon mode when it is unable to find a valid image, config register is set to go to rommon on bootup, hardware problems etc.

Make sure you didn't put the DRAM card in the flash slot. Another thing to check is the DRAM mayn't be seated corrected in the slot.

Issue the command dir flash: in the rommon mode and check whether the router is seeing the IOS. If you do see the valid image then issue the command boot flash:(file_name)

Pls. rate the post if it helped.

HTH,

Sir, I re-seated the card and it now will boot. Before I installed the card, it showed "32K bytes of non-volatile configuration memory." After I installed the card, it still shows "32K bytes of non-volatile configuration memory." Because it is a 64k stick, I should have seen the amount of space increase, correct? Could it be a bad card maybe?

Thanks for your help.

Hi

can you paste the output of show version here..?

I feel you are looking upon the non-volatile storage normally being used to store the configs..

once you issue a show version you will be able to see a line giving you the total amount memory you have in place in your box

cisco xxxx (xxxxxx) processor (revision xxxxx) with 55706K/9830K bytes of memory.

In this case the total adds up and comes around 64MB..

Thanks for your help. I should know this but don't. The boxt started with 16 Flash / 32 Dram. After I added the new 32 flash and 64 dram, here is the show ver
