Are there any pitfalls in upgrading from CatOS to Cisco IOS. We are replacing out Sup1a with Sup720 and at the same time moving up to Cisco IOS from CatOS on a Cat6509. Are there issues we should be aware about, any conversion issues. On out CatOS, we have lots of VLANs, multicast and eigrp running?
The most obvious pitfall is that you will need an entirely new configuration on the sup720. Ideally this should be prepared and tested before moving over. In many cases this will not be feasible or possible though. This means that you have to be very accurate when preparing the change.
An extensive testing plan and a downtime window that's large enough are obvious requirements.
