Uplink fast for Core Switch

I am planning to apply uplink fast feature for the core switches interconnected in a square topology with two 6509 on two corners and two 4000 on the other two corners. Each 4000 will have one connection to each 6509. And the two 6509 will be interconnected (trunk). Is is OK to use uplink fast for the 6509s and 4000s? All documents that I am reading from Cisco recommends to us it for the access switches.

You are correct gilson. Uplinkfast is configured only on access switches that each have two connections to switches in the network layer above it.

Backbonefast is the feature that must be configured on all switches in the network.

Follow the docs.. if you configured uplinkfast incorrectly, a topology change can cause a 5+ outage.. nasty.. seen it before and its not pretty. so be careful and follow the doc's recommendations.

Another idea is that if all you have is cat4ks and cat6ks.. you may want to upgrade your switches and run Rapid PSVT+..
