Urgent: Multicast Utility

Is the a multicast utility or commands that can be used to check to see if multicasting is working between 3 points?

Re: Urgent: Multicast Utility

The simples way is to ping the multicast address. I use that technique all the time to troubleshoot mcast issues.

Hope this helps,

Re: Urgent: Multicast Utility

Thanks

It is not that I cannot ping the address but we seem to have an issue whereby it only works in some VLANs.

So what I need is a multicast traffic generator? SO that I can generate multicast trafic in diferent vlann and therebyping it?

Thanks

Re: Urgent: Multicast Utility

Oh, I see. What you need is not a mcast traffic generator but rather something to simulate a station that joins a given group. You can always use the "ip igmp joing" command on the VLAN interfaces.

Re: Urgent: Multicast Utility

Thanks everyone. I found a very good site

http://www.st.rim.or.jp/~yumo/#tfgen

and then the mping from the microsoft site.

The above site has the

****Traffic generator "TfGen"

TfGen allows you to generate traffic on network (e.g. ethernet).

****Multicast traffic receiver "Mcast"

Thanks
