Does a server which is the source of a multicast stream need to do an IGMP membership report to "join" the multicast group before it starts transmitting the stream? Or is IGMP used only to control who wants to "receive" the multicast?
Sender don't need to register itself anywhere. They only start sending multicast data. PIM DR has the responsibility of registering to RP of the source.
IGMP is used for join operation of the receiver side.
