User Tracking displays every IP addresses, but only a few hostnames

Hi,

I run Campus Manager 3.2 and ANI 4.1.

User Tracking found every MAC addresses, every associated IP addresses, but only a few hostnames.

On my Ciscoworks server, I can manually perform a DNS reverse lookup (nslookup) of faulty IP addresses -> I get the hostnames...

I have a Windows NT4.0 domain, with a WINS server as well as a DNS server. DNS server is configured to use WINS reverse lookup.

Non-discovered hostnames are all Windows NT workstations registered in the WINS server.

How exactly works the IP address to hostname resolution ?

Is there a max number of hostnames ?

Does Ciscoworks use the Windows resolver or its own resolver ?

Any help will be appreciated.

Christophe

Re: User Tracking displays every IP addresses, but only a few ho

Hi,

Thanks for you reply.

As mentionned in my message, I can do a reverse name resolution on my Ciscoworks2000 server.

I tried this from a DOS shell and using the Ciscoworks "NSLookup" (Under "Server Configuration->Diagnostics->Connectivity Tools").

Reverse resolution works well for IP addresses that User Tracking is unable to display the hostname...

Any other suggestion ?

Blue
