Username case sensitivity

When logging in to a router, the username seems to be case insensitive. Is this normal? Some routers will use TACACS+ to authenticate users and others simply use the local database but I get the same results. The usernames are created with upper and lower case letters but you can login using only lower case letters, only upper case, or a random mixture.

Re: Username case sensitivity

Yes, for login to the router

the locally configured user

name is case insensitive. With

TACACS, it's the server's

decision.

Please note that with PPP and

IOS 11.3 and above, the user name

is case sensitive. It is case

insensitive with versions below,

clearly violating the standards

and often causing problems when

authenticating remote systems of

other vendors.

Re: Username case sensitivity

when logging into router and using the local database, you can have case sensitive option as long as you configure the aaa authentication as follows

aaa authentication login default local-case
