Using a FDDI ring for Gbic?

Hello everyone,

Is it possible to use a FDDI ring as a Gbic backbone? (eliminate the FDDI concentrator).

I sincerely appreciate your help.

Re: Using a FDDI ring for Gbic?

Kevin,

I am unsure what you are referring to when you say Gbic Backbone. FDDI interfaces come in two major flavors, SAS / DAS. For you to make a ring without a concentrator you'd need DAS interfaces to chain your devices together, and have redundnacy in case of failure. GBICs are removable Gigabit Ethernet interfaces that Cisco uses for some of it's network equipment. If this does not answer your question could you be more specific with your question or provide more information.

Hope this helps,

Don
