Using both RPS and AC power OK?

My 3548XL is currently on RPS power only. But I need to remove the RPS temporarily during business hour. If plug in the AC power and disconnect the RPS, will the switch stay on-line? Is this possible? Thanks.

Re: Using both RPS and AC power OK?

This is a quasi-redundant configuration with wrong power up order.

Please refer to:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/accessor/ps2883/products_installation_guide_chapter09186a008007dfb6.html

In this configuration the switch should be powered up first and then the RPS. This would leave the switch powered by its own AC power supply.

If you power the RPS first and then its own power supply the RPS led operation might be incorrect. There is no other warning in this kind of operation.

There is a down side tough. When you will power down the AC power supply, the switch will reboot.

The quasi-redundant power config is the raccomanded one by cisco (refer to the above link).
