Using GBIC Port on 6500 Supervisor Module

We would like to confirm that utilizing the GBIC ports on 6500 supervisor 2 engine module will not impact performance. We take it that the GBIC path is the data plane and does not impact the control plane on the blade. If our assumptions are wrong, please clarify and explain the limitation of using these ports for traffic.

Thank you

Larry

Re: Using GBIC Port on 6500 Supervisor Module

Barring any real data, I have used the sup ports and have not noticed any impact on performance through the 6509. This is even during high-bandwidth times. Someone may have more 'real' data to share with you, but my confidence level is high for this action.

Re: Using GBIC Port on 6500 Supervisor Module

As Sup2 ,MSFC 2 support upto 256gbps switching speed

There should not be a problem at all.

Re: Using GBIC Port on 6500 Supervisor Module

Larry

using the GBIC ports on the sup module doesn't impact performance that I have seen.

The only draw back is if you have a redundant module

the GBIC port is obviously disabled if the Sup fails over to a redundant sup.

if you don't have a spare then no worries

thanks
