Using MAC address to find an IP address

Hi there,

Just wondering if there is a way to figure out what the IP address is on

a catalyst 5505 if I know the mac address.

show arp didn't do it because this box hasn't been access for a while

so that arp cache has cleared.

thx,

paula

Re: Using MAC address to find an IP address

Do a sh cdp nei det on the switch and log in to tthe router that is connected , then do a sh ip arp xxxx.xxxx.xxxx with the mac address where the x's are , this will return the ip address . You can also ping the broadcast address for that segment to generate a response from the box
