I have a 4006 switch with a supervisor III engine. I want to use a sniffer which runs on a server to capture all traffic from a specific port. Since the sup III no longer uses the span or port-monitor command, how do I do this? I tried the "monitor session" command like this:
monitor session 1 source interface fastethernet 3/6
monitor session 1 destination interface fastethernet 4/1
but when you do this, the destination interface goes into a "up down" state and indicates it is "monitoring". Why? What's the point? Any advice would be great.

Are you not getting packets in the sniffer connected to the destination port ???

Up/down is normal for a monitor port on the SupIII engine.
