Virtual IP address

I seem unable to create a static route to a virtual (no MAC) IP address. I create the static route with no error messages but can only ping that addres within the same VLAN. THe route does not propogate over EIGRP. No WAN users can see the address either. Any ideas ?

Re: Virtual IP address

I have not used EIGRP but normally you have to tell dynamic routing protocol to redistribute static routes. For example

router eigrp (not sure about the in eigrp)

redistribute static

Re: Virtual IP address

Yes, we do tell EIGRP to redistribute static routes, should have put that in my post. It's only this one route that does not redistribute and doesn't even show up when you do a 'sh ip route' on the local network let alone at the other WAN routers.

Re: Virtual IP address

Just because its in the config doesn't mean it becomes an active route. The next hop has to be reachable. Do you see the route in the router (where you put it in static) when you do a show ip route?

Re: Virtual IP address

And the answer is - ARP table entry for the virtual IP.
