virtual template

Can anyone give me a simple explanation why we would use a virtual template, are they like a dialler interface ?

a virtualTemplate is used for creating 'independent interfaces' that can be applied dynamically to create virtual access interfaces.

a virtualTemplate is a 'logical' entity, ie: a configuration for a serial-interface, but not tied to a physical interface. the VT and its properties can be applied as needed.

for example, in a dialUp scenario, when a user dials in, a predefined configuration 'template' is used to configure a virtual access interface; when the dialUP connection is done, the virtual access interface goes down and the resources are freed for other dial-in users.
