i want to know where vlan.dat file is stored by 2950 seris switch, its documentation says its stored in nvram but 'show startup-config' won't show any file in it. but 'show flash' command do show vlan.dat file in it.
On the 2950, there are 2 configurations really. the switch configuration in NVRAM, and then the VLAN database configuration which contains vlan information which is the vlan.dat file on flash. If you delete this file you essentially default the switch back to the VLANs out of the box.
Typing "vlan database" at command line gets you into the vlan database configuration mode.
Probably because nobody has pointed out the error to the documentation team yet. Are you using the most recent documentation and for the most recent release? If not, what does the equivalent chapter say in the most recent version?
In fact, if I remember rightly, the 2950 does not have any NVRAM at all - it is simulated in flash as the file config.text

to determine which MAC Address table to look in for a forwarding
decision. To do this we require the switch to do...
