vlan in 3524 switch

Hi,

Pls help.In 3524 switch when i create say 2 vlans, im able to have only one of the vlans as active vlan, the other vlan even if i use NO SHUTDOWN command,remains administratively down.

Pls help to understand this issue.Thanks in advance.:)

The interface VLANx that are in a 3524 are for network management purposes only (telnet access to the switch, SNMP, etc). As such, only 1 will be active at any given time.

If you need to create VLANs in your 3524, use the vlan database command from the enable mode to add, delete and modify VLANs.

3500/2900 switches use a database to manage vlan information. The only effectively vlan interface, interface vlan 1, is for switch management. You can specify an IP add to telnet this sw.

To create vlans, use command "vlan database" under privileged mode.
