Perhaps this is an interoperability issue, or problems with earlier technologies involving VLANs. I'm guessing this has to do with broadcasts to ports attached to the same backplane but on different VLANs. Does your question stem from a "mixed" environment or a pure Cisco switched network? I'm curious as I finally have a standard of 3500s and 6500s in my LAN and am not seeing this problem. At least so far as I know.
