Can one port be member of two or multiple vlan's. ?? Of course at a time only one VLAN will be active.

Normally, a access port on a 6500 can be in only one VLAN only. Few exceptions to this

*A Trunk port(either ISL or dot1q)

*A port configured for aux VLAN to support IP phones

The only other instance I can think of is the Private VLANs (PVLANs).

Private VLANs (PVLANs) provide Layer (L2) isolation between ports within the same PVLAN. It's not really two distinct VLANs where the port or device can flip flop between different networks. Rather, it is a configuration where nodes are configured so that while they may be in the same primary VLAN they may be configured to not speak to other nodes unless specifically permitted. A typical implementation would be in a secure DMZ.

Multi-VLAN port is supported only in the Catalyst 2900XL/3500XL switches.

The port can only be connected to a router or server.

It allows users from different VLANs to access a router or a server

without the use of inter-VLAN routing. However, there are some limitations:

- you cannot configure a multi-VLAN port when a trunk is configured on the switch.

- the switch automatically transitions to VTP transparent mode when the multi-VLAN

port feature is enabled.
