VLAN question

Hi

I have 2 2950 switches the distance between them is 200m so in middle i use a unmanagable switch. I plan to implement VLANs but the problem is that can the unmanageble switch forward 802.1q frames? The switches recognize their link as P2p and both are in VTP sever mode, the vlan created in one switch passes to the other.

Re: VLAN question

i small info required, all the ports in 2nd 2950 is going to be on the same vlan or diff. vlan?

if same, make the 1st 2950 uplink port(connected to un-manageable switch) as switchport access vlan 2, & same on the 2nd 2950 switch.so that all the switches in the 2nd 2950 can have only vlan 2.

if diff, make the 1st 2950 uplink(connected to un-manageable switch) as trunking port & same on the 2nd 2950 switch. so that it allow different vlans.

rate this post if helps.

Re: VLAN question

Yes, the uplink ports recognize them as trunk ports.
