Help!

I am getting the following error message when attempting to set up a trunk between a 6509 and 2900XL switch:

16:04:05: %SPANTREE-2-RECV_1Q_NON_TRUNK:

Received 802.1Q BPDU on non trunk FastEthernet0/1 on vlan 100.

16:04:05: %SPANTREE-2-BLOCK_PORT_TYPE: Blocking FastEthernet0/1 on vlan 100.

Inconsistent port type

What am I doing wrong!

Many thanks,

JM

Hi,

it seems like port configured as 802.1q trunk on 6509 side but as acess port on 2900XL side.

Check if there are

int fa 0/1

switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q

switchport mode trunk

commands in the 2900XL config.

Regards,

Milan

Milan,

Thanks for your prompt response, I have now got the trunk to work by ensuring that the interfaces on both switches are on the same native VLAN. However, I am now unable to PING the default router even though I have created a VLAN interface with an IP address and default gateway of the MFSC switch.

Any ideas?

Man thanks,

JM

Hi,

you need

interface VLANx

ip address ........

no shutdown

!

ip default-gateway ..........

in your switch config.

The default gateway address must be the IP address of your default router which has to be in VLANx.

Milan
