Vlan trunkning on a 10Mb ethernet interface(cisco 2610)

I have found that you can setup dot 1Q trunking on the ethernet interface of a 2610, But i cannot find any information on this. I have got a situation where i might need to do the VLAN routing through this 2610..

can somebody give me a reference or have used it, I can imagine the ethernet might soon get overloaded if it does the routing between the vlans.

The following page should help

http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/473/#Trunking

I have been told trunking on 10Mbps is supported in 12.2 code but I have never tested it. Before this trunking was supported only on fastethernet and gigabit ethernet

I've had a quick look, there is no reference to an Ethernet 10MB interface!

Thats why i was embarrassed today when a customer said you could do

dot iq on 10Mb interface, but I cannot find any references to it!

Re: Vlan trunkning on a 10Mb ethernet interface(cisco 2610)

Hi,

I've been doing this for awhile on 10 meg interfaces on 2600s.

encapsulation dot1q vlan-id [native]

* 12.0(1)T - added / introduced

* 12.1(3)T - native keyword added

The commands are in the IOS master index and have the above version numbers next to commands. I haven't come across any cisco doc mentioning *ethernet* though but it does work.

Setup like this:

interface e0/0

no ip address (or ip address of native VLAN if not using native keyword)

no sh

interface e0/0.10

ip address x.x.x.x y.y.y.y

encaps dot1q 10

interface e0/0.11

ip address x.x.x.x y.y.y.y

encaps dot1q 20
