Re: vlan with 4000 series router to 3550 switch

Is your 3550 running SMI or EMI software ?

Does your Catalyst 4000 have a built in layer 3 module ?

What sort of router are you useing ?

If you are having a problem setting up switch trunks because of an encapsulation mismatch, know that cisco are phasing out ISL and are using the standard 802.1Q. If you need to connect each VLAN accross switches and can't use a trunk, you will have to use an accessport (with a cross-over) for each vlan you want to connect. Note that VTP will not work now.
