vlan1 on 3550 switch shows up & down

I have 3 questions about my 3550 switch:

i)I saw interface VLAN 1 is showing interface up but line protocol down, tried many ways including reset shut and unshut interface, but working

ii)After creating another vlan, also showing up and down.

iii)I connected router and switch via strait cable, the port light shows green but from the information when I issued "show ip interface brief"

I saw the port is down&down.

Anybody got the same problem defore?

thanks!

Re: vlan1 on 3550 switch shows up & down

Hello,

you need to have either an active access port, or an active trunk carrying the VLAN in question, for the respective interface to go to up/up.

Regarding the connectivity between your router and the switch, the straight cable is ok, make sure you have the speed and duplex settings fixed at both sides (e.g. speed 100/duplex full). Can you post the configuration of the router and the switch ?

Regards,

GP
